Maria Xynou works with the Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI), where she manages censorship measurement research and global community engagement to increase transparency of internet censorship around the world. Previously, she worked with the Tactical Technology Collective in Berlin, where she created digital security resources, investigated the data industry, and facilitated digital security workshops for human rights defenders. Maria also worked with India’s Centre for Internet and Society, where she investigated the surveillance industry and helped organize multi-stakeholder round-table meetings across India for the discussion of draft privacy legislation. holds an MSc in Security Studies from the University College London (UCL).
